Responsibilities:

  • To support the promotion and effective management of the Council’s commercial waste and recycling collection and disposal services to businesses in the borough. This includes customer liaison, problem solving and other similar enquiries, ensuring all matters are resolved to the customers’ satisfaction.

  • To ensure data relating to the council’s commercial waste portfolio is managed effectively, including the processing of all new, amended or cancelled contracts and maintaining up to date records of the customer base and portfolio value.

  • To communicate with the Council’s waste and recycling collection provider to ensure that all new, amended and cancelled collections have been updated on their database.

  • To maintain an up to date commercial waste account, producing accurate monthly invoice data in accordance with council timetables.

  • Process any credit notes, amendments or, invoice errors, working closely with finance colleagues where appropriate.

  • To manage the payment process with respect to special collections, ensuring timely receipt of payments where prepayment is required or the raising of invoices for commercial waste customers.

  • To ensure that all commercial waste contracts have correct calculations applied and to ensure contract details held on the council’s IT systems are correct and that any amendments or cancellations are progressed accordingly.

  • To support the recovery of outstanding debts relating to commercial waste, by liaising with Debt Recovery Officers and contacting customers directly to chase up outstanding debt. To liaise with waste contractors when actions are being considered with respect to contract suspension and/or cancellation of services.

  • To manage the council’s commercial waste sack delivery and ensure the timely distribution of refuse and recycling sacks and stickers to customers on an annual basis.

  • To liaise with the council’s contractors to ensure the effective delivery of services in accordance with agreed schedules and contractual requirements.

  • To ensure data relating to domestic bulk bin hire is managed effectively, including the processing of all new, amended or cancelled contracts.

  • To liaise with housing associations, property developers and managing agents in relation to invoice queries relating to domestic bulk bin hire.

  • To liaise with council contractors to ensure all bulk bin deliveries, replacements or removals are actioned in accordance with contractual requirements.

Experience:

  • To have knowledge and understanding of the administration of a Commercial Waste Service

  • To have an understanding of waste management within the public sector

  • Good ICT knowledge ideally including the use of MS Office (and other software including databases

  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to secure favorable terms and pricing

  • Proven experience of working with external partners

  • Experience of working on own initiative as well as within a team environment, prioritising and successfully managing a personal caseload of work.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

Salary: £26,000.00-£27,500.00 per year
