The McDonnell Academy Experience
The fellowship program goes beyond traditional financial support. As a McDonnell Scholar, you'll receive:

Eligibility and Application Process
To be considered for the McDonnell International Scholars program, you must:
- Apply to an eligible WashU doctoral or master’s degree program.
- Have earned or plan to earn a bachelor’s degree by the end of the 2023-24 academic year.
- Note that this fellowship is not available for undergraduate studies.
- While applicants from all countries are welcome, priority is given to international candidates who are graduates of one of the Academy’s Partner Universities.

The application process is straightforward and can be completed online. Here are the key steps:
1. Apply to a WashU Program: Start by applying to an eligible WashU doctoral or master's degree program. The application to the McDonnell Academy is separate from your WashU program application. Be sure to apply to both.
2. Compile Your Materials: Gather your biographic information, academic history, a personal essay, a short video, and a recommendation letter.
3. Online Application: Submit your application materials through the online application portal. Detailed instructions are available on the application instructions page.
What to Expect
Once your application is under review, the admissions committee will evaluate your candidacy. Decisions are usually made by the end of March, with notifications sent out no later than mid-April. Each year, around 20 Scholars are admitted to the McDonnell Academy.
Your applicant dashboard within the online application will be updated to reflect the decision regarding your acceptance. Accepted individuals will also receive an email notification with further information.
