Assuring that engineering design, procurement, construction, and project completion are carried out in accordance with the project contract requirements—that is, the project schedule, cost, HSE, and business standards and procedures—is the principal responsibility of the mechanical project engineer. In certain situations, a project engineer's duties may also include examining and assessing mechanical alterations made to utilities and oil and gas handling and processing facilities.
