Interns will be assigned to work on a specific team and may collaborate with other divisions and teams as needed. Interns will be asked to focus on a range of projects, including longer-term and day-to-day/immediate tasks assigned by their team and will learn the basics of high-level communications strategizing, writing, pitching, and advocacy.
Our Fall 2022 Internship Program runs from early September 2022 to late December 2022/early January 2023. While interns can be fully remote, our in-office policy for Washington, DC and New York, NY is currently flexible, and proof of full vaccination is required to enter our offices.
Internships are available on the following teams:
Cities and Lifestyle: Our Cities team leads communications campaigns for visionary clients in commercial real estate, affordable housing, urbanism, hospitality, travel, arts and culture, architecture and design who are shaping the future of cities.
Issue Advocacy & Strategic Campaigns: Our Issue Advocacy and Strategic Campaigns teams work on national social justice issues including racial and economic justice, criminal legal reform, reproductive health, rights and justice; immigrant rights; climate change action; quality education; responsible investing and much more.
Legal Affairs and Crisis Communications: Our Legal and Crisis team supports a range of clients as they win major legal victories on issues that include civil rights, technology, the media, higher education, philanthropy, workers’ rights, criminal legal reform and more. We also support institutional and individual clients facing reputational threats.
New York Regional Advocacy: The New York Regional Advocacy team works on clients ranging from major civic and cultural institutions to companies, nonprofits and labor unions that are impacting the top policy issues of the day in New York City and the northeastern region, on issues that include clean energy, the cannabis industry, economic justice and workers’ rights, criminal legal reform, homelessness and hunger, and child and family well-being.
Tech and Innovation: Our Technology and Innovation team helps technology companies at all levels, from startups to global industry leaders, with a focus on climate tech, mobility, tech training and education, urban tech, media tech, and consumer electronics.

As an intern on our team, you will…
Learn the basics of high-level communications strategy and media relations
Draft daily reports, build press lists, gather media clips, do media analyses and research projects, pitch reporters and copy-edit
Assist with a variety of communications- and team-related assignments and tasks as necessary
Essential skills:
Self-motivation, good organizational skills, detail-orientation, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong writing abilities: able to write clear and persuasive copy, quickly
Ability to work with a team to meet group objectives
Ability to communicate in a professional manner with the press and community contacts
Demonstrated interest in news, politics and current events
Excellent computer skills including Google Suite products, Word, PowerPoint and Excel

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Interns must be able to work 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, on a roughly 9 am-to-5 pm Eastern Time schedule. Note: The Issue Advocacy team hours are roughly 7 am-to-3 pm Eastern Time. Please do not apply if you cannot meet this requirement.
Compensation: $17 / hour
